Pioneer III
The last day for the Pioneer III was a great day to be on the water for late November. Skipped blackfishing and went for the bass. On board today was Mr. October, Big Tom (the cigarette smoker) Anderson, Evz, Michael ( the college kid) Lombardi, Rebecca and Roger. Hot rods of the day were Rebecca and Evz while everyone else held their own. Lots of short bass kept everyone on their toes all day. When it came down to the big bucks there were 2 contenders, Mr. October and Roger but Roger gets to take his bride Christmas shopping. Happy Holiday's from The Pioneer III Roving Reporter. Hope to see everyone next season. That's all folks.

Pioneer III
Left the dock at 6:30 as the Capt want to set up before the paparazzi arrived. Got set up and the first fish came over the rail at about 8:15 by Mr. October. Then Roger hooked up and the cooler started to get real dirty. Evz, Big Tom and the Capt got off to a slow start but picked up as the day progressed. Big money went to Big Tom and that made the third week in a row for him. Congratulations to you Tom you deserve it. The conservationist (Village Idiot or Hardy Girl) went to Rebecca K, NYC. She managed to let the most fish return to their natural habitat than anyone else. High hook went to Mr. October with a double limit for the day. And yes we are going to do it all again Tuesday, Friday, Saturday and Sunday AND THAT'S ALL FOLKS, see you in April.

With a chill in the air we left the dock on time with an outgoing tide. We set up and waited. It looked like six statues from St. Nicholas Church because there were no bites to be had. Around 9:15 Evz bagged the first fish that would be the pool fish and it weighed in at an even 8lbs. Then Mr. October, Randy and the Capt started boxing fish. The last 2 statues to finally come alive were Paradise Pete aka St. Peter and Felix. the bite turned on and before you knew it we limited and were tossing back 5 and 6 lbers. Got back to the dock early to end a great day on the Pioneer III. The last trip for the season is Nov. 27th. The bite is on so book a trip if you can. And yes we are going to do it all again Sunday.

Nice day to be on the Pioneer III. Fishing was a slow pick all day with a couple of hot picks. Today Rebecca K, NYC had a rod that was on fire. Big Tom Anderson, JC, NJ managed to catch the big money for today with the 5th largest fish on the boat. That is equivalent to Capt. Andy and Dan the mate having the largest tog of the day. Still they put a nice catch together. Roger, Evz and Tacklebox Tommy O helped dirty the cooler. The coldest rod was Mr. October with 1 short but had a lot of bites but just couldn't add anything to the catch. Now Mr. October knows how the Village Idiot felt. And yes we are doing it again on Wednesday and again Sunday.
The boat is scheduled to come out of the water after the Thanksgiving weekend so book your trips now. Call Capt. Andy 201-650-9768

Fred from (22"s of snow) West Milford, NJ, Rebecca K., NYC, Roger, Big Tom, Evz, Mr. October and the guy that drives the boat, drops and pulls the anchor our favorite Capt. Andy. Steady action with Mr. October having the hot rod with 6 keepers to 6lbs. The star of the day was Big Tom Anderson form JC, NJ. Tom (AKA) as big Poppy caught Big Poppy and it weighed in at 11 1/2 lbs. he also had 6 1/2 lber. Everyone contributed to a great day of fishing and catching. And yes we are going to do it all again Wednesday and Sunday.

Went right to the blackfish grounds and as soon as it got light they started to chew. Lots of action with the shorts in control for the beginning then the keepers showed up. Rebecca and Roger had some giant fish on but lost them on the way up. Evz had a couple of keepers but Big Tom is still in that slump as far as keeper go. Capt Andy had the hot rod and we lost count of his catch. He had all the big fish to 6 lbs. Mr. October made the sign of the cross because Capt Andy wasn't in the pool. Mr. October won the big bucks with a 3lber. The fish slowed to a stop so the Capt decided to make a few drifts for bass. Made 5 or 6 drifts and nothing so we decided to call it a day. And yes we are going to do it all again next Sunday and also this coming Wednesday.

Left the dock the Capt. wanted to stop for bass but with 4 ft. seas the Capt. changed his mind. Thank God. It was like crab fishing on the Bering Sea. Slow ride to the black fish grounds and it started to settle down but the wind stayed constant all day. Difficult anchoring with a very strong west southwest wind. Finally set up and the bite was on. Non stop action and the Capt. raised the size limit from 14 to 15"s. At around 12 noon it turned into catch and release until it was time to head home. Mike Lombardi (first ever black fish trip) from Jersey City, NJ thought he had the big bucks until Mr. October put him in his place which was 2nd place. Good to see you again Mike, study hard and let me know when you can make it again. Hot rod was Rebecca K., NYC, along with Roger, Evz, Mikey and Mr. October. Big Tom was in a rare slump but we all know he will bounce back next Sunday.

Took a ride with Capt. Andy, first mate Evz, Mark Singleton and Mr. October today. Left the dock at 12:30 and returned at 3:00 with Mr. October getting off the boat with sore arms for being high hook with 5 followed by Evz with 4 and Mark had 2. 8 released to 25lbs. Looking for the stripers, now is the time. Call the Capt and book your trip because before you know it you will be shoveling snow.

Pioneer III Fishing Report
Stared off with a little chill in the air. We were the first boat on the grounds with very calm waters. Anchored up and they started to chew right off the bat. Very fast fishing and then a slight delay and then they started again. Steady action all morning and then around 12 :00 we decided to go for bass due to the fact we were running out of crabs. The Capt tried all over but couldn't locate any. Big shortage of green crabs the week. Had no eels on board so Capt. Andy asked our neighbor Capt Ralph on the Weigh Point if he had any extra eels and thanks to Ralph we boated 4 stripers with Mr. October getting the first limit of bass so far this season. Roger had one as did Evz. Great day on the water and the fish are back. Big money winner was
Rebecca from NYC with a 4 lb tog. That's the second pool in her last 2 times out. Expect to hear from the IRS. And yes we are going to it all again next week and maybe Wednesday if the Capt. can locate some green crabs.

The Sunday crew moved to today due to a yearly trip to Maine for the Capt and others.
First day of blackfishing was not good at all. Joe O of Jersey City took Big Tom's place due to a very bad cold, had 2 keepers, the Capt had 2 and Pete G stepped up to the plate to get the big money for today with a 16 "er. Very slow fishing which can be attributed to warm and dirty water.
And yes we are going to do it all again next week.
The Pioneer III Roving Reporter
Hope everyone going to Maine has a safe and productive trip.

With the threat of rain we still sailed and happy we did. Got to the spots the capt. said should produce and it sure did. Plenty of action with seabass to 5 3/4 lbs caught by Rebecca from NYC. Unfortunately the seabass season in NJ is closed so back went that bass to it's natural habitat. Caught a couple of shad porgies, fluke and tog but all in all it was a great day on the water. Awarded hot rod of the day was Rebecca again with a 17 3/4 lb. striper and the big money winner. And yes we are going to do it all again next Saturday for the start of blackfish season in NY.

Pioneer III Fishing Report
Started of looking for bass. Had no problem finding them, the problem was getting them to bite. The Capt had great readings. Made about or 6 drifts and not a bite. Up the east river we went and nothing but Felix had a bass follow his bait to the top and took off. Headed back down river and made a couple of stops and again nothing. Went outside and Mr. October the first real bite and lost a bluefish near the boat, hook missing. Then Felix connected with a blue and managed to take the big money for the day with a bluefish. Heading home we made a fluke sop and Big Tom got a short fluke. Going home we made another stop for the bass and again nothing and we headed for the dock. Tough day of fishing but it's better than standing on the dock. Next week we will do it again.

Pioneer III Fishing Report
Well I have to say this has been the worst day of fishing I have ever had but the fun and laughter took the place of fishing. The water is the dirtiest I have ever seen in the river and lower bay, it looks like Dunken Doughnut Bay (according to Evz) because the water is like a cup of coffee with milk. The Capt got 1 small porgy and a tiny seabass and Dan the mate had a small porgy also and that was it. Hopefully the water will clear and we can get back to fishing. The Capt want to hit the Tin Can grounds but the East wind stopped him. According to Capt. Steve Spinelli on the charter boat Skylarker out of Belmar the ocean was as rough as BALLS and was heading back to his dock.

Hi everyone, it's been a while since I reported due to Irene. I wish I had something good to report. Today we made a round robin meaning the Capt went all over the lower bay, ocean and back to the lower bay on the Brooklyn side. On board was Felix, Mr. October, Big Tom, Roger, Evz and Rebecca. High hook and big money winner was Rebecca with 2 New Yorker's which included a 5.5. Even the shorts got shorter. Very bad today but it won't stay that way. And yes, we are going to do it all again next Sunday.

Started off on time with Big Daddy, Felix, Roger, Mr. October, Big Tom, Rebecca and the recently retired Evz. Hit all the good spots but nothing to keep. Headed outside and again nothing to keep. Went over to the rip and Roger dirtied the box with the one and only keeper of the day and the big bucks. Sky threatening and the weather channel was screaming warnings of all kinds. With our safety in mind the Capt. headed for the dock. Got in around 1:30 just in time for the Yankee game, thanks Capt. And yes we are going to do it all again next week, except for Rebecca she will be out tomorrow. Good luck.

And you thought there would not be a report. 4 looneys plus the king looney showed up at the dock. With the rain pouring down we all decided to go out for a couple of hours. Off we went, had incoming tide which didn't mean anything because the only fish we caught were shorts, real short shorts. The Capt stayed out long enough for Mr. October to get one and then he headed for the dock. Got back about 11:00 and home ward bound we went. And as soon as we dry out we are going to do it all again next Sunday. If not sooner. The Pioneer III is sailing 7 days a week, so give the Capt. a call and go fishing. Because the next thing you know you will be shoveling snow.

Very iffy leaving the dock this morning. Look like all hell would break loose but it didn't. Stayed cloudy most of the morning with very little rain. First stop Rebecca K caught the first keeper of the day followed by the Capt. The big star of the day was Jimmy G. who out fished Big Tom Anderson, Rogee, Mr. October and Evz by boxing 2 with going an even 9 lber. Rebecca and Jimmy both had 2 keepers for the day. Stayed in the deep to avoid the small fish but there were some in the deep. The Pioneer III will concentrate on deep water fluking so give the Capt. a call and set up a trip. And yes we are doing it all again next Sunday.

Had the usual crew with the exception of Jimmy G. who had other plans but will be back next Sunday. Evz started it off with 2 keepers followed by her other half who had the largest fish of the day that tipped the scale at 5 1/2 lbs. Thank God he is not in the pool. Mr. October had 2 keepers including the big money fish that weighed in a 4 1/2 lbs. Rebecca K, from NYC boxed a keeper just before leaving for the dock. And yes we had a few of hardy people: that included Vicky Yannacci from Hoboken, NJ. Big Tom Anderson from JC and Roger Miller who bagged that 10 lber. last Sunday. Another day in paradise and yes we will be doing it again next Sunday and even during the week.

What a day to be on the water. First stop 2 keepers, the Capt. and Big Tom got to dirty the cooler. After being threatened by Big Tom this is how he wanted the report to read. Big Tom was the first of the legendary Sunday crew to catch his limit this year but the real hero is Felix who got his limit last Monday. Roger had 2 and Mr. October got an exacta. I am proud to say that Evz and Rebecca have been entered into the exclusive 20" society by having 2 each. Went to the FLUFFY spot and he sent big Tom the pool winning fish. He also sent Mr. October a sea robbin. no problem Fluff we will be back. And yes we are going to do it all again next Sunday.

A good day to have stayed home but did we ? No !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Leaving the dock overcast and misty we headed to the fluke habitat. Very slow start and thunderstorms by Newark Airport and coming our way. The first keeper came aboard thanks to Big Tom and in the box it went. The pick was on the lite side until Jimmy G. bagged a keeper and then the rain started. Next keeper by Rebecca followed by Evz who came out of her slumped and took the big bucks. Kept raining and very heavy at times. Roger and Mr. October were the hardyboys of the day. To much of the wet stuff the Capt. decided to head in early. And yes we are doing it again tomorrow and Wednesday.

We must have caught a least 150 fish and managed to box 3. Capt. Fred (Tugboat) took the big bucks this week breaking Mr. October 3 week run. That is his 2nd in a row for Fred. Left the dock it was 56 degrees and had a northeast wind at 15. Stopped at a couple of spots that only produced shorts. Capt Andy decided to head to the ocean as the wind seemed to be dying out and dying out it did. Headed right to a spot off Cooney Island and the fish started to get bigger with Mr. October boating a 20 1/4 and back it went to it's natural habitat, as did the 20"s caught by Evz, Jimmy G, Big Tom, Roger and Rebecca. It really hurts to send them back but it's the law (dumb) but it's still the law. Lots of action but the keepers were hard to come by. Capt. Andy managed to dirty the cooler with a 21"er. Then Mr. October exploded with a 23" and 21 "er one right after the other and took the big bucks. Mr. October earned his name by winning the big money for the last three Sundays.

Again we had the legendary Sunday crew. slight chill in the air but we were bass fishing by 7:30. Very slow start until Jimmy Garner about 9:30 put the first bass in the cooler. Started to pick a few shorts and then big Tom put an 8lber in the box. It seemed the short bass had control today. Around 10:45 Mr. October hooked up and added another one to the box. Weighing in the big money pool it was very, very close between Jimmy and Mr. October. According to Rogeee if Jimmy's fish ate one more clam it would have been tied. Mr. October grabbed the bucks and took off. That's the second big money pool for Mr. October is as many weeks. Had 1 hardy boy and 2 hardy girls this week. Memorial Day Fishing Report
Got started late with extremely heavy rain and wind (should have expected it, with you know who on board). Got to the bass grounds at the change of tide with no hope of any bass then 10 year old Frankie hook up and boxed a 31" bass. That was it for the bass then off we went fluking. Rode about 30 minutes to a spot off Coney Island with very clear water. Tornado Pete got the first throwback that measured 19"s and off it went. Antoinette, Roger and Mr. October all caught fish that should have been box but were returned to their natural habitat. The hot rod of the day was Frankie who bagged a 26" and a 22" and also Evz added a 21"er. The day turned out to be one of the best days on the water thanks to Paradise Pete. Weatherman hit it right on the head. Torrential downpours and we got that, dense fog and we got that. Started off looking for bass with the legendary Sunday crew. Consisting of Mr. October, Roger, Big Tom, Rebecca and Evz. 1st fish on went to Big Tom, very very very large fish that was lost at the boat because of the tightest drag setting possible on his reel. Therefore Capt. Andy bestowed the first Angler Error Award ever given on the Pioneer III. To say it nicely. Then Mr. October bagged an exactor and Evz boxed a keeper. Roger had the limit today and we had our first Hardy Girl of the season, yes it was Rebecca K of NY City. And yes we are going to do it all again next with the full legendary Sunday crew.

Started off looking for some fluke. Very slow with the first 4 or 5 drifts producing a few shorts. Then the first keeper of the 2011 season was bagged by none other than Evz. Wonder what took her so long ? Gave up on the fluke and went for the bass. After anchoring up big Tom Anderson, Roger and Evz managed to boat some tog that was quickly returned to their natural habitat. Then Evz along with Capt. Andy boated keeper bass. It was Mr. October's turn and he along with Evz assistance with net landed a 5.5 fluke caught on a whole clam. The tide and the wind quit and we decided to go home and watch the Yankee's.

Roving Reporter Commentary
APRIL 24, 2011
Started off on time with Mr. October, Roger, Big Tom Anderson and Evz. First 2 hrs. we fished Gravesend Bay and it was like a grave on 1 barely legal flounder caught by Big Tom. Moved off a little offshore and anchored up. Slow start the Big Tom started it off, he had 4 keepers, Roger had 4, Evz had 1 and the Capt. had 1 when it was all over. Photos attached. Mr. October will be remembered as the first hardy boy for the 2011 season, not even a bite in the flounder category. Heading towards home we stopped for a shot at the stripers Evz quickly limited and Big Tom took the big bucks with his.
MAY 1, 2011
On board today we had Big John Parotta, Big Tom Anderson, Jimmy Garner, Mr. October, Roger and Evz. Even though today was the opening day of fluke the Capt. decided to try for bass because the Saturday trip was very good. Happy Evz was on board as she bagged 2 keepers right off bat and that's all she wrote in the keeper bass category. A couple of short bass by Big John and Mr. October were returned to their natural habitat. Off to the fluke grounds and again Evz bagged 2 short fluke and they were also returned to their natural habitat. Tried a few more spots and nothing happened. Capt. Andy caught Big Tom snoozing in the cabin and decided to call it a day. It can only get better. |
