Pioneer IIIBig Tom, Rog

The fluke season of 2016 for the Pioneer III has come to a close. Fishing was again slow with Jigging Jack taking the big bucks again this week. Followed by the Legend and Cathy M. both adding 1 to the cooler. Capt Andy decided to try for some porgies and we put a nice catch in the box. Big Tom, Roger and Michael M. put some nice porgies in the cooler as did Cathy, the Legend and Jigging Jack.
This is my final report. Had a lot of fun. See yeah  !!!!!

The Legend and Roger had 3 each followed by Jack and Michael with 2 and Big Tom added 1 to the box. Will be out this Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Pioneer III

If you read the Capt's report from yesterday, you would think another good day was going to happen. WRONG. We had a total of 6 keepers and plenty of ping pong paddles. Leading the way was the Legend with 2 followed by Cathy M, Roger and Jigging Jack with 1 and the Capt. pitched in 1. Still a great day on the Pioneer III. The crew will be out next Sunday again and again.

Pioneer III

Well the weatherman was right about it being hot but not on the water. Had a nice breeze all day that kept it warm but tolerable. FISHING wasn't at it's best but it was better than staying on land. Roger (king of the road) Miller led the way with 3 and took the grand prize. Followed by Jigging Jack and Mike M with 2 each. Cathy M and the Legend had one apiece. Lots of shorts and big shorts. And YES the same great crew will be doing it again next week. See ya.

Pioneer III

What a great day to be on the water. The morning was a slow one, maybe 2 or 3 fish in the box. Tide just didn't seem right for some reason. Afternoon came on and so did the flukes. Roger led the crew with a limit, Big Tom and Jigging Jack had 2 apiece and Cathy, Mike and the Legend added 1 each to the box. The grand prize went to Cathy M. from Berkeley Heights and was quickly handed to Mike M from the same place. The Capt was in charge of the net and Evz caught a break. Lots of laughs and yes the same crew will be out again next week.

Pioneer III

What a day if you were a duck. Weatherman said showers early morning WRONG. Rained most of the morning but the fishing turned on. The star of the day was Big Tom with his limit and a bluke fish, yes a blukefish, you had to be aboard to understand that one. Long time coming for him. Congrats to you. Next up is jigging Jack with 4 including a pool winning 8 1/4 lber. and a blukefish which his neighbor is going to enjoy. Nice going Jack. Roger and Mike M. had 3, Mike had a contender but came up shy with a 7 1/2 lber. What a difference a week makes. Right Mike ? The Legend and Cathy M. had 2 each (I hope that's right). The Capt. added his two cents to the cooler with an 8lber. Thanks again to Evz for netting all those big fish. The same great crew will be out again next week.

Yes it was hot especially when the breeze quit. Hot rod went to Cathy M. from Berkeley Heights, NJ with a limit by 11;05 also looked like she had a contender for the bucks. Jigging Jack and the Legend added 3 each to the box. Roger M. boxed 2 and bagged the big bucks. Big Tom contributed one and was looking for donations of which the Capt. tossed him one. Now for Mike M. he stood at the rail all day under extreme heat but could not manage a keeper. It happens to the best Mike. Next week may be yours. It's like playing the lottery "hey !!!! you never know". The same great crew will be here next week.

Pioneer III

Another nice day on the water. Roger started of with 2 keepers by 7:25 and waited until the afternoon to add another making him high hook. Next the Legend and Jigging Jack added 2 each to the cooler followed by Big Tom putting one in late in the afternoon. Capt. Andy added 2 for the cooler and generously gave away. The biggest surprise of the day was the Melillo's who didn't add anything but kept the shorts coming all day. The Legend managed to get the first legal weakfish of the year and donated it to Cathy and Mike for dinner tonight. As always Evz was right there with the net all day. Thanks Evz. We will be at it again next week.

Pioneer III

Great day to be on the Pioneer III. Weather !!!! Simply perfect. Fishing was real good but the keeping was not what we were use to. No big fish but good action all day. Hot rod went to Cathy as every time this reporter look to the bow she had a short coming over the rail. Cathy M. and Jigging Jack were the leaders of the pack with 3 each. Followed by Roger M. had 2 and the Legend, Big Tom, Michael M. had 1 and even the Capt. threw 1 in the cooler. The big bucks went Roger with a 4 lb whistle fish and I mean right when the whistle blew he hooked it. And Evz was on the money with the net all day.

BOOM BOOM BAM. What a day. Cathy  M. from Berkeley Heights, NJ had 4 and tried her best to get her limit. NO GOOD. Maybe tomorrow. She also had a contender for the big bucks. Rebecca and Big Tom had 3 each followed by the Legend and Roger with 2 and Mike M also from Berkeley Heights (he knows Cathy M) had 1. The Capt. contributed 4. Lots of shorts. BOOM BANG BAM the pool money went to the legend again. Wow Wee. Will be out tomorrow and in early as the Park is expecting 120,000 people for the fireworks. Yes Evz was right on the money with the net and yes we had a few net violations.

Pioneer III

All the Capt. kept hearing was the fishing is very good up the Reich. So guess what ?  Off we went. Everyone was there early and we left the dock at 6:25 and arrived at 7:15. Had tide all the way. A couple of shorts came up and we looked to the west and saw an early ship heading our way. The way is goes is that when a ship passes it destroys the fishing and that is exactly what happened. Before the ship got to us the Legend boxed a 7 1/4 lber. and that held up for the big buck for the day. And sure enough the fishing died and we headed back to our normal spots that produced some quality fish. High hooks were the Legend, Roger and Cathy M with 3 each followed by Michael M with 2 and Big Tom and Jigging Jack had 1 apiece. Glad the Capt. got that out of his system. Will be back next week.
Special thanks to Evz for always being there with the net and yes there were many net violations by all.

Jigging Jack had 2 Big Tom added 1 and got some help from the Capt. and Evz both adding 2 each. The Legend and Michael M kept hearing 1/4 inch all day long and added nothing to the cooler. Doing it again next week with the same cast of characters.

Pioneer III

What a day. Wind, wind and more wind. Relentless all day long. Fishing was great but the keeping was a different story. We managed 11 keepers with Roger having 4, Mike the statue from last week had 2 by 7:30 and added another later on. Big Tom put 2 in the cooler and Jigging Jack and the Legend both added 1. This week we had a female statue which happen to be last weeks statue's wife Cathy. It's not that she didn't catch anything, shorts all day long with non stop action. She will bounce back next week. The big bucks went to Roger ( king of the fluke fishing for today) Miller.

Pioneer III

The Capt. decided to go out today because Sunday looks to be a wet one. Starting off the day was Jigging Jack with a 7lb fluke that kind of settled the pool right off the bat. High hook was the Legend with 3 fluke followed by Roger with one. Evz and the Capt. also added 1 each. Switched over bass and the Legend put a piece of bunker on his fluke rod and hooked up and with help of the Capt. managed to put it in the cooler. Big Tom also added a bass. Felix had a slow day but went home with a bass. Fun day on the water.

Pioneer III

Well today will go down in the Pioneer III history book. Mike Melillo cashed in the first free trip on the Pioneer III in the memory of this reporter and I have been around for awhile. Mike said it was the worst fishing day he ever had, if the miracle happens again he will gladly let his wife Cathy have it.
Fishing report: Big Tom led the way with 2 keeper fluke followed by Cathy and Jigging Jack with 1 each and the big bucks went to Jack. Stripe bass category went to Roger with 2, the Legend had 1 and Cathy also had 1. Mike stood at the rail all day like a statue in St. Nicholas Church. Tomorrow's trip is cancelled because of weather. See you next week.

Pioneer III

The first Sunday trip was a success. Big Tom had two of the biggest bass of the day weighing in at 20 and 25lbs. as the boat was limited. Tried for the fluke and the Capt. added a special incentive. Whoever got the first keeper fluke gets a free trip. Yes a free trip. I took his pulse to make sure he was OK and he was. Mike Melillo got the first one but the legend got the biggest and took the big bucks. Had a nice catch of bass, blues and fluke. Roger also had a monster bass that made him sit down for the rest of the day. Cathy and Jigging Jack also contributed to the cooler. Will be doing it again next week.

Pioneer III

Well the first Sunday trip of the 2016 season turned out to be very windy. Today the Melillo"s Michael and Cathy along with the Legend, Roger. Back after a long illness is Big Tom Anderson and it was like he was never gone. Felix finalized the sixth man. The back of the boat was back to normal with Tom taking a lot of punishment and abuse. Laughter all day long. As for the fishing, it was a slow day. Michael had 2 bass, Cathy had a bluefish but the big bucks went to Felix Class with a 20 lb bass and also a monster blue. The Legend, Roger and Big Tom contributed NOTHING TO THE BOX. Looks like we will be doing it all again next week.
