Well this day finally came as it does every year. The last day of the 2014 season ended on a bad note, no fish and came in early. Water temp dropped and they turned off, 3 fish were caught. One by the legend, one by Jigging Jack were shorts but the big bucks went to the king of the road Roger Miller with a 17" tog. Hope everyone has a happy and safe holiday season and thanks for sailing with the Pioneer III. See you next year.

Wow !!!!!! Another day without the wind and the fish did not co-operate. 1st stop they were chewing but no keepers. It slowed down the rest of the day. We would get a short here and there and a few keepers. The overcast clouds and cold temps put a clamp on the bite. The big bucks went to Felix with a 5lber. Good to see you out again Felix after your surgery. Looking to get out again on Friday (weather permitting). So keep an eye on the website for updates.

WOW !!!! No wind for most of the trip. Flat calm and the fish co-operated. Ended the day with 14 keepers and Mike Melillo beating out his wife for the big bucks. Everyone helped dirty the cooler this week. Lots of laughs today because we had the Barker and kielbasa out. Happy birthday wishes go to Cathy Melillo who turns ___ on the 16th. Happy birthday from the Sunday crew.

Beautiful morning on the water, no wind for the first 3 hours and then it came 15 to 20 NW. OUCH !!!!!!. Had a good bite till around 12:30 and that's all she wrote. The Legend and Roger did not help dirty the cooler. Jack, Mike M., Rebecca, Evz and the Capt. contributed to the catch. The big bucks was split today between Jack and Mike M. Going Friday and again next Sunday.

With the wind coming out of the NW at 15 to 25 we still went fishing. Got to the blackfish grounds and there was 1 boat there already. We anchored up and the bite started. Fast at first then it slowed down to a pick for the rest of the day. Made a few moves but the wind kept blowing. We managed 7 keepers with lots of shorts. Anthony (the barker) had 2 with the pool winning 7lber. The Legend boxed 2 and Jack Tom had 3. Cathy and Mike Melillo and Evz had only shorts. We will do it all again next week and hopefully the wind will be tolerable.

Beautiful day on the water. Nothing much to report. The fishing was good but the keeping was a little better than Friday's report. Even had the same pool winner. Oh well !!! The action was there even with no tide. Only going to get better. Trying to set up a trip for Friday the 17th. Interested call the 201-650-9768.

First blackfish trip of 2014 was interesting. Hot rod was Mark Singleton, Singleton/Galmann Real Estate in Hoboken, NJ. Mark got ambushed by Randy and Tom K. but still managed to pick away. The Capt. got the first keeper and everyone heard about it for the next half-hour. The legend became his target of abuse until he boxed the pool fish and the chirping stopped. Mark, Randy and the Capt. added to the keeper portion. Evz and Steve Nuding, Master Carpenter, (Hoboken, NJ) and Tom K. couldn't connect in the keeper department. Plenty of fish but only 5 keepers. Still a great day. Doing it again Sunday.

With the fluke season now history the Capt. decided to look for porgy and bass. Weather on our side we headed for the tin can. Heavy porgy bite and the cooler was half full. With everyone in agreement the Capt. decided to look for sea bass. Found a few spots with just sea bass but contained a lot of shorts. Ended up with 6 keepers and called it quits and homeward bound we went. Great day on the water. Lots of bunker around with something chasing them at times. Black fishing opens next Sunday, so stay tuned for a report.

Well today was the last day to keep fluke in New York waters. On board today was: The Barker, Rebecca, The Legend, Jack Tom, Roger and Evz the first mate also our grumpy captain Andy who by the way was in a good mood. Did a half a loop today and continued to catch shorts. Although it was much better than the last 2 trips. The Barker led the way with 3 keepers which included the pool winner, followed by the Capt with 1. And that's it folks, nothing else to cheer about. FLUKE SEASON IS OVER. Thanks to the Barker for bringing out that delicious Kielbasa and rye bread. Yes we will do it all again next week but don't know what species we will be looking for yet.

The wind never stopped blowing until around 1 PM. Coming out of the north @ 15 to 20 didn't help the fishing. Hot rod and big bucks winner was the Legend with 2 keepers to 5lbs plus the first limit weakfish (23") on the Pioneer III this year. Roger put a nice sea bass in the box and Jigging Jack put in 2 cocktail blues. Big Tom, Rebecca, Evz and the Capt. tried all day but bombed out. Ken the Legend was nice enough to feed the Capt. and Evz tonight. We will be doing all again next Sunday which is the last day of fluking in New York waters.

He also pocketed the big bucks. Thanks for the Kielbasi again this week, hope you come out next week also. Everyone contributed to the catch with only 2 jeepers creepers awards today. Roger and the Legend had to wear the hat. Lots of laughs and great food. Doing it again next week.

After Saturday's massacre Sunday was a different story. Went to the same places as the Saturday trip and they had lockjaw, meaning keepers. Hot rod went to Rebecca, NYC but the funny thing about that is nothing went into the box. Shorts all day long and I mean short. Mike Melillo had one where the gulp was bigger than the actual fish. High hook went to Cathy Melillo and Ken the legend with 2 each. Big Tom had one which was a contender for the big bucks until Evz blew it away with a 6lber opposed to Tom's 4lber. Tom had to rip up his deposit slip. Roger and Mike M got the jeepers creepers award for today. Doing it again tomorrow, with a different cast of characters.

Not such a great day. The wind God must have been mad at us today. Went to CI and the wind pickup to 25 out of the NW. The Capt. decided to go to SI, pick a few fish and the wind died out so off to CI again. Picked a couple more and Roger and Evz hook into cow nose rays and the fun started. The wind God did it again and sent us back to SI. Not to good. Started for home and made a few drifts inside and Roger boxed a 6 lber and took the big bucks again. Cathy had 2, Roger also had 2, Ken (the legend) had 1 as did Evz and Big Tom. 2 jeepers creepers awards went to Mike (where fun goes to die) and broken toe Rebecca, NYC. And yes we will do it all again next Sunday.
Have a trip this Friday the 22nd. Any one interested can get in touch with the Captain @ 201-650-9768.

Started off in the rain and according to our in boat weatherman (Roger) it would stop around 10 AM and so it did. Went to the slot and managed shorts, shorts and more shorts. Roger boxed the first keeper followed by Ken, Rebecca, Mike, Big Tom and Evz. Went to the Pioneer Banks when the tide was right and managed all quality fish. We had only one skunk hat today and that was Cathy who looked pretty good in it. Weighing in the pool required a balance scale as it was very close between Rebecca and Roger and the winner was Roger by a couple of ounces.

Well today was worst day this year with a problem with a hard north east wind. Lots of short action and a total of 3 keepers. With 3 in the box she added an 81/2 lber to become high hook and a little richer. Roger, Cathy, Ken, Jack and Capt. Grumpy also added to the catch. 2 jeepers creepers for today were Mike (where fun goes to die) and Evz. And yes, we are doing it all again next Sunday.

Well the weather man really likes the Sunday crew. Picture perfect and the fishing matched the weather. Jack Tom (yes that's his real name) had his limit and helped out other anglers. Roger had 3 plus took home the bucks with a 7lber. The dynamic duo (The Mellillo's) had 2 each. Ken the legend managed the first keeper and that's all she wrote as far as keepers are concerned. Rebecca and Evz played conservationists for the day. Plenty of action with shorts and some shorts that felt like keepers. Oh well. Going to do it all again next Sunday. Highlight of the day was a 5lb sea bass landed by Jack Tom and yes it was returned to it's natural habitat. Sea bass season opens on July 15th.

Started off with flat calm water. Hit a couple of producing spots in the past and only picked shorts. Wind picked up and chased us to an area that produced an 81/2 lber for Roger and the big bucks went in his pocket, and two 7lbers. one for Ken the legend and one for Rebecca. Cathy and Mike each had keepers. Don't think Evz had a keeper but I could be wrong. Roger also managed a seabass that went at least 4lbs and yes it was returned to it's natural habitat. Yes !!! we will be doing it again next Sunday. Have a safe 4th of July.

Had the father and son team of Alan (father) and Michael Preis. Michael quickly forked up the fair and pool money on the legends request. Strong NW wind which didn't help the fishing. Jumped around until the capt headed to a different area of which produced some nice fish. Everyone had at least 2 with Ken the legend high hook with 4 followed by Roger and Michael with 3 and Rebecca, Alan and Evz with 2. The wind crapped out and it turned out to be a great day. The big bucks went to Michael who beat out THE LEGEND by a couple of ounces. Hope to see Alan again. Get the picture Michael.

Next came Ken (The Legend) with 2-6lbers and a 5lber. Rebecca managed 2 nice ones followed by Chief Inspector John Carrier (retired HPD) with one. Wow !!!!! What a day to be on the water. Five stripers were boated today. 2 were close to 25lbs. Capt. Andy boated the first fluke of the 2014 season and was returned to it's natural habitat. Fluke season opens on the 17th and the size limit is 18"s and 5 bag limit. Also caught were about 20 blackfish that were also returned. Evz took the bucks today and she deserved it. The bass had it's mouth open and with a strong tide, it was tough but she managed to get it to the boat for the Capt. to gaff it. The fish of the day went to Mr. October with a winter flounder that hit the deck and was never seen again. Flounder limit is 2. Evz and Roger had limit bass and Rebecca had 1.
