Pioneer III

Well today we started of it was 41 degrees and it basically stayed in that area all the time we were out there. On board today was Felix, Big Tom, Roger, Mr. October, Jack and of cause Evz and the Capt. If we were allowed to keep 15' fish like NJ we would have had a mess of fish but no, we have a 16"limit and that's that. The boat managed about 16 keepers with Big Tom boxing an 8lber. to take the mega bucks this week again. After being out there since Easter we finally got boarded by the fish police. They looked all over the boat as if we were drug smugglers and never once measured any of the fish. I think they were rookies and just going through the motions to satisfy the lieutenant in charge with a brand spanking new taxpayer boat. Oh well, so be it. We are now sailing on a new schedule: if the weather is nice and we can get enough to go then we go. The Capt , Evz and the Roving Reporter wishes everyone that sailed with us and their families and Happy and safe Thanksgiving.

Pioneer III

Today started off calm and stayed that way all day until the fog chased us in but the fishing improved again. On board was Broken toe Klinger from NYC who was the conservationist of the day and kept throwing her fish back. The dynamic duo (The Melillo's from Berkley Heights, NJ (eieieioooo dagnabbit)came out and Mike took the Mega buck pool today with a 6lb tog. Big Tom, Mr. October, Roger and Evz helped fill the cooler. The star of the day was Capt. Andy with 2 jumbo size tog. Everyone on board had a nice bag of fillets to go home with. Special thanks to Kevin Keller of Keller Electric in Hoboken, NJ for the farm fresh eggs he brought back from his country estate. And yes we are doing it all again next Sunday if not sooner. Pioneer III

What a great morning, weather wise that is. Pick a few fish. Nothing great until Mike Melillo boxed a 7lber. About 11:30 the wind picked up and so did the fishing. Kevin Keller from Keller Electric, Hoboken, NJ bagged his first ever tog and later managed a 6lber which hooked him on black fishing. Roger had his limit as did Evz. Big Tom was not feeling well and Rebecca got stuck in Manhattan as the path train will not be running to JC until the 24th of this month. Mr. October struck out today. The wind was blowing 35 so we called it quits and headed home.

Pioneer III

What a day to stay home but did we ???? no way. We were taking a beating at the blackfish grounds. Windy and a fast new moon tide beat us up. Roger, Mr. October and the Capt. managed to dirty the cooler with limits and Big Tom lost a giant tog a few feet from the net. Evz and Broken toe Rebecca had very close shorts that were sent back. The big bucks went to Mr. October and up in smoke it will go. Doing it again this Tuesday, Thursday and  back again on the 10th. Think it's easy being the Roving Reporter.

Pioneer III

Another great day weather wise that is. On board today was Mr. October, Rebecca, Rogee and Big Tom. Fishing again was spotty with fish bites coming every 30 to 45 minutes and then nothing. Everyone went home with some fillets for dinner but Mr. October banged the big bucks this week with a 5lber. Just when you think the Capt. should move, on came the bite.  Good thing the Capt. wasn't in the pool, get the picture. Bigger fish today as the water temperature is dropping due to colder weather. See you next week.

Pioneer III

What a day on the water. Fishing was slow all day with quick shots of fish mostly shorts 15 and 15 1/2 ". We did manage to dirty the cooler with everyone contributing at least one to the catch. Star of the day was Big Tom with 3 and taking the big bucks. Things are looking up because the trees are starting to change colors and the water will start to get colder and that's when the tog will turn on. Next week forecast calls for lower temps. Check the website during the week as I know the Capt. and the first mate Evz will be out there.

Pioneer III

As I said last week the fishing is. This week we had 10 keepers with only one needing the stick. Even the shorts are giving us a lot of action. M. Melillo (dag nabbit) came from behind with 3 from the bow. Mr. October had 2 as did the Capt. and Evz who also had 2 took the big bucks this week. Felix had 1 and gave us a lot of laughs for the day. Thanks Felix. Lost the tide and decided to head for home. Have another trip scheduled for Friday with some great black fishermen. See you then.

Pioneer III

First day of black fishing was off to a slow start in the keeper category, total was 5 with the dynamic (dag nabbitt duo) having 2 each and Mr. October had 1. Keep in mind that the water temp is high with the outgoing tide. We had a good catch of 15 and 151/2 inch fish also a lot of smaller ones. As time goes on the water should cool and the fishing should get better. The big bucks went Mike Melillo from Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. Special thanks to Mike the mate for a job well done when he was awake. Good luck to the boys and girl going up and get home safe. Yes we will be doing it all again next Sunday.

Well it's over. The fluke season for 2013 has come to an end today. It started off as a normal day until Big Tom discovered he left his gulp at home and that delayed the trip for 35 minutes of which did not do him any good for the day. We finally left the dock and had a nice ride to the fluke grounds. Also on board was Roger, Mr. October, M. Melillo eieieio dag nabbit, Evz, Broken Toe Klinger and Joe Nardello. Today there were no birds working therefore no blues to chase, not many shorts but Broken Toe caught the biggest sea robin of the year. That a girl Rebecca. The catch was not great but we did manage 3 keepers. Joe N, M. Melillo and Mr. October dirtied the cooler with Mr. October taking the big bucks. Next weeks trip is being moved to Saturday and the guys and Evz are heading to New Hampshire and it is the opening day of black fishing. Yahooooooooooooooooo. Next week the dynamic Melillo eieieio dag nabbit duo will be in attendance.

Took a minor beating today with NW winds blowing 20 and better. We survived with a smorgasbord of fish. Mike Melillo eieieio dag nabbit had his limit of fluke. Big Tom had the first keeper of the day and added another towards the end of the day. Mr. October had 2 including the big money winner. Evz and Rebecca helped fill the cooler with Hickory shad, weakfish, cocktail blues which are fun to catch. The beating we took was worth the full cooler of fish we got. Next week ends the fluke season for 2013 and a good season was had by all. Well !!! at least I think so.

Great day to be on the water. We managed to get a fish smorgasbord including: Fluke, Bluefish, Seabass, Weakfish and Stripe Bass. Big Tom had the hot rod with high hook in the fluke and bluefish categories and also a short bass. If I didn't mention that he threatened me saying I wll never see another SS check. I got the picture. Mr. October had 2 keepers, a weakfish and some bluefish. Evz, Jack Tom also had 1 each. Joe N. had 1 also had the biggest weak fish of the day. The big bucks went to Jack Tom for the second week in a row. Nice work jack. Rogee and Rebecca showed up today. Rebecca had jet lag and still a broken toe. Oh well. We will be doing it all again next week.

Today we had Jack, Mr. October, Big Tom, Rogee , Evz, Joe N and Crabby (the guy that drives the boat). Made a quick stop and Rogee had 2 of his 3 keepers by 7:30. Slow pick for the rest of the day. All quality fish that didn't need the stick. Adding to the catch was Jack with 2 including the pool winner, Joe N had 2 plus a small cow nose ray that kept him busy for a while. Lots of sound effects too. Mr. October also participated in the catch with 1. Big Tom and Evz had a hard time but kept at it. Tom had an almost keeper sea bass but back it went. And yes we are going to do it all again next Sunday.

Overcast and looking like rain off we went. On board today was Skippy, Big Tom, Evz, Jack, Mr. October and Rogee. Very slow off the bat with just a couple of shorts. Heading to our normal spots and nothing to write home about. The shorts out-numbered the keepers. Total amount of keepers were 4. Mr. October was high hook with 2 with a 4.14lber which snatched the big bucks again this week. Not sailing during the week as Skippy and the Capt. are going tuna fishing on the Voyager out of Pt. Pleasant, NJ. Good luck guys.

Today we were invaded with a large school of Cow Nose Rays. High hook in the rays category was Rogee with 3 followed by Evz, Mike Melillo (ei  eiooooo) Mr. October, Felix with 1. In the fluke category the star of the day being high hook and the big bucks winner is non other than Mr. October. Going to fill his gas tank with the bucks. Don't know exactly who caught what but we had a grand total of 14 which is pretty good.

The best day of the year so far with 21 keepers. Most of them never needed the stick. The star of the day was that tenacious, avid sportsman and all around great fisherman Big Tom Anderson from Jersey City, NJ with 6 keepers. Tom also took the big bucks today and said his grandchildren are going to get some jelly beans. Nice Job Tom. Next was Cathy wife of (Michael where fun goes to die) Milillo with her second limit in as many trips with 4. Rogee and Michael both had 3, Evz and Rebecca had 2 each and Mr. October got lucky and had 1. Thanks to Rogee for donating his fish as it made a lot of people happy. And yes we are fully book for next Sunday as usual.

Wow !!!!! what a day both weather and fishing. Slight chill in the air but it felt good.  Wanted to stop on an early spot but the tide would not let us, so off we went into the Atlantic Ocean. Didn't need the ruler today because when the fish hit you knew it was heading to the cooler if you got it in. Not to many shorts or other species. The star of the day was Rogee (King of the boat) Miller who limited by 12:10 pm and was high hook with 6 and the big money winner. Congratulations Rogeeeeeee. The anglers with 2 were Rebecca, Evz and Big Tom. Solo anglers were Mr. October, Felix and the Capt. who by the way fished for about 7 minutes, (he made me say that.) WHAT A DAY !!!!!!!!

What day to be on the water. Blue sky and with white puffy clouds all over. First stop NOTHING. That got the Capt. talking to himself. I got them here the other day and where are they today. Kept moaning and groaning until we started to get some fish and then some. Skippy was high hook with 5 followed by Rebecca with 3 and Mr. October with 3. Big Tom added 1 as did Rogee. Evz surprisingly became a Hardy Girl today and that doesn't happen to often. Even the Capt. tossed one in the cooler. The big bucks went too non other then that dynamic, good looking, magnetic, Mr. October. And yes we are going to do it all again next Sunday.

Started of with an overcast sky that lasted most of the day (thank God). The fishing was a constant pick, the keeping was tuff until the afternoon change of tide. Not a massacre but with the short action and the bigger fish getting mixed in, it turned out to be a real nice day. Cathy (half of the ) from dynamic duo from Berkley Heights had her limit and the other half Mike was waiting for the bus back to the dock. Mr. October boxed 3, Big Tom Anderson rung the bell with 2 including the big bucks with 6.10 lber. Rogee help dirty the cooler with 1, Evz also added 1 and a working brain. Great day to be where I was today. Started off early as usual and there was about 3 boats on scene, 30 minutes later there was 22 boats. The Leonardo Fluke Tournament was yesterday and today. A lot of strange boats and people. One person had a knife Jim Bowie used to carry. Oh well that's over thank God. The fishing ? steady action for the day with the total number of keepers totaling 11 and 2 weakfish. Rebecca (broken toe) was high hook with 3. The dynamic duo from Berkeley Heights, NJ Mike and Cathy (with a C) added 3, Rogee had 1 that took the big bucks today. Mr. October added 2 and Evz had 2. As long as it added up 11, I don't care who caught what. Doing it again tomorrow and Friday. The Capt. will post those reports as I only work 1 day a week. Get the picture.
